Season 2 Episode 4:

BRIENZ
with LÉO KAMBOURIAN

Léo Kambourian is an 18-year-old from the French-speaking side of Switzerland who decided to pursue a slightly more atypical and creative career path by enrolling at a woodcarving school in Brienz, located in the Bernese Alps.

Léo had always sought a hands-on profession that combined drawing and creativity. During an internship with an architecture firm, he realised that sitting in an office all day was not for him. This led him to undertake internships with independent craftsmen until he discovered the school where he is now studying.

When he visited the school and completed a three-day internship, he immediately fell in love. It offered everything he had been searching for: the opportunity to express his boundless creativity through woodworking, all in the stunning setting of Brienz. The only challenge was that he spoke French, while Brienz is in a German-speaking area, and all the courses were taught in German. To address this, he completed a language year in Fribourg to build a foundation in German before starting at the school.

During this preparatory year, he also took part in the entrance tests, which are held over three days in Brienz. Following these tests, he was selected, along with six other students, from among 20 applicants.
